COMMON (MAGELLANIC) SNIPE Gallinago paraguaiae magellanica

In the Falkland Islands the Magellanic Snipe is found in a variety of habitats from dwarf shrub heath and acid grassland to open tussac grass.

It feeds on invertebrates, mainly worms and larvae, obtained by probing with its long beak. The breeding season is mainly between August and October.

Common Magellan Snipe breed from the Falklands through Tierra del Fuego, and the Magellan regions of southern South America to 37°S in southern Chile and 45°S in southern Argentina.
